Udo Kohrmann

Udo Kohrmann was born and trained in Holzkirchen, Germany, where he learned the European stonemason’s craft — including the building of Kachelöfen, the tile-faced masonry heaters that are part furniture, part art, and part heating system.

For over 18 years he has lived and built in Wakefield, in Quebec’s Gatineau Hills, designing and constructing masonry heaters, fireplaces, bake ovens, stone walls, chimneys, hardscaping and ponds across the Ottawa–Gatineau region.

His philosophy is simple: every fireplace is designed for the family who will live beside it. Each project is built by Udo himself — no subcontractors, no shortcuts — and many incorporate his background in ceramic art, from custom tile to mosaic detail.

Beyond the Outaouais, Udo is available as a consultant and designer across Canada, helping homeowners and builders plan masonry heaters and stonework that will last for generations.
